A facelift is the procedure to improve the neck and jaw line in the face. Often times this is performed in conjunction with a browlift
and blepharoplasties(eyelids). It is used to remove the excess skin from the neck and the effects of gravity on the lower half of the face.
The Procedure
An incision is made around the ear and into the hairline. The skin is lifted and the muscles are tightened underneath. The risks of the procedure include
bleeding, loss of skin, facial nerve paralysis, and scarring. Those individuals who smoke, have Ehlos Danlos syndrome, and or hemophilia, are
really not candidates for this procedure because their risk for any complications is much higher. Bleeding is the most common, so we keep all
our patients overnight for observation. The details of the procedure are tailored to the individual, as well as whether the patient is a male
or a female. All male patients will have drains in after the procedure while that is not the case with women.
The Recovery
We keep all of our patients over night; thereby any drains will be removed the next day before discharge. You will have a large dressing on for
four days, after which it will be removed in the office, and you will be given a face bra to wear for the next week. The stitches in front of the ear
are removed at four days; the remaining sutures are removed a week later. Your face will be swollen with some bruising. The bruising remains for one
to two weeks. Swelling remains for months, however the majority of the puffiness is gone by one month. Most patients are seen in public with makeup
in 2 weeks.
