Breast Augmentation Newport Beach, CAIf you’re a woman who has lost a significant amount of weight, has had a baby, or is simply dealing with the effects of aging, you may have noticed a loss of volume in your breasts. For many women, losing breast volume and dealing with subsequent sagging can be a frustrating issue. Fortunately, there are several surgical procedures used to address and correct the issues associated with drooping and loss of volume, including a breast augmentation and a breast lift.

But which one is right for your needs?

Here’s a look at the criteria Dr. Katharine Nitta uses when determining the best procedure for her patient’s desired outcome;

  • The positioning of the nipple is evaluated, as its location will indicate the amount of volume lost in the breast. As a general rule of thumb, if the nipple is at the level of the inferior breast fold or higher, an augmentation can be used to lift the nipple to achieve a perkier look. Should the nipple be located below the fold, or pointed downward, Dr. Nitta recommends a breast lift procedure to return the breast to a more youthful position.
  • Breast volume can also play a role in determining which procedure is best for a patient’s needs. Those who desire larger breasts, or a different breast shape, may prefer undergoing an augmentation in addition to a lift, which can simultaneously address issues associated with drooping and loss of volume.
  • Many patients wonder if both procedures can be performed in a single procedure. The answer is yes; however, this approach may not always be feasible depending on your particular circumstances. Dr. Nitta recommends that some of her patients undergo a breast lift first and save the breast augmentation for a separate procedure. Some patients who undergo both an augmentation and a lift in a single procedure may require a minor secondary procedure to achieve their desired aesthetic results.
